I don't blame you. FYI, the Savage outperformed the Honda Shadow VLX600 and the Yamaha V-Star 650 in the 1/4 mile and 0 to 60 mph, per the December 2002 Motorcycle Consumer News.
Shadow:
90 mph - top speed
8.34 seconds - 0 to 60 mph
16.11 seconds - 1/4 mile
V-Star:
91 mph - top speed
7.82 seconds - 0 to 60 mph
15.82 seconds - 1/4 mile
Savage:
85 mph - top speed
6.98 seconds - 0 to 60 mph
15.30 seconds - 1/4 mile
And we know that top speed problem can be resolved with a decent aftermarket muffler and rejetting the carb.
I'm quite happy with my stock 1987 Savage.
